Lightning Bolts and Little Sparks
‘LIGHTNING BOLTS & LITTLE SPARKS’ is the inaugural group exhibition from the new WOW x WOW online gallery. With this gallery platform, WOW x WOW intends to take a step back from any of the restrictions that ‘themed’ group shows can impose on an artist’s natural expression, and instead provide a stage for participating artists to showcase new pieces from their personal and ongoing output of work.
The show title, ‘LIGHTNING BOLTS & LITTLE SPARKS’, is a metaphorical reference to both the ‘eureka’ moments and the smaller inspirational steps forward that are experienced by every artist; all of which are significant and of relevance to the continual growth and development of the true artistic voice of each creative individual.
Curated by WOW x WOW’s founder, the Scottish artist, curator and writer, Tim Maclean, ‘LIGHTNING BOLTS & LITTLE SPARKS’ features the work of over 90 artists, and gathers together a powerful roster of both established and emerging talent from within the international New Contemporary Art movement.
Exhibit runs June 2-30, 2017

Un/Provincial: Art of South Texas
Saturday, June 11 at 6 p.m.-Opening Reception

The exhibition title, Un/Provincial, refers to the ever present contrast between the simplified view of south Texas promoted by the media and the reality of artists creating a 21st-century aesthetic on an international level. These south Texas artists, working in a highly informed and sophisticated way, refuse to be isolated by geography or stereotypes. Their work is serious, even when presented with humor; serious, sophisticated, deeply thoughtful and highly professional. By refusing to ignore the provincial and local, the artists find rich source material in the surrounding landscape, languages, and blending, clashing cultures. Viewers are drawn in by the intricacy, absurdity and mystery of the art only to find upon closer inspection layers of meaning that push the audience to reflect on the complex, tumultuous, constantly changing world of south Texas.

Participating artists: Cande Aguilar, Mark Clark, Jesus de la Rosa, David Freeman, Veronica Jaeger, Nancy Moyer, Jorge Puron, Mauricio Saenz.

Exhibition dates: June 11 – September 1, 2016.
